The centre-half is set to be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to a problem which Mustafi picked up on international duty during Germany’s 5-1 win against Azerbaijan.
The 25-year-old centre-half was selected to play for his national team despite Joachim Low’s men booking their place in the 2018 World Cup with a 3-1 win against Northern Ireland.
Mustafi will now miss some key fixtures against Watford, Everton, Swansea City and Manchester City as the former Valencia defender recovers from his injury setback.
The Arsenal defender was in an upbeat mood as he posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following message for Gunners supporters:
“Gunners, unfortunately I’m forced to take a break because of a thigh injury. I’m already looking ahead and will give my best to be back as soon as possible 👊🏽👍🏽 Thanks for all your get-well-wishes! 🙏🏽 🔜 🔙🔛🔝 #coyg #comebackstronger #sm20”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League last season to miss out on a Champions League spot following Mustafi’s £35m move to the Gunners from La Liga side Valencia in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The north London side fended off interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the recent transfer window for their versatile German defender.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04.
