Arsene Wenger heaped more praise on Mesut Ozil after the Germany international’s fine display in Arsenal’s 5-2 victory over Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

The World Cup winner was in top form as he scored one goal and set up another to help the north London side claim all three points against the Toffees.

The 29-year-old has struggled with fitness issues this season but looked as if he was back to his best against the Merseyside outfit on Sunday afternoon.

And Wenger admits that he was delighted to see Ozil back to his best on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Arsenal Player after the game, Wenger said: “I’m impressed [with how he played] but when he is sharp physically like that and at that level of performance, he must enjoy it and of course we as a team enjoy it.

“He can score, he can do what he wants. He has the technical quality, the coordination to score even headers and when he is mobile like that he can get into dangerous areas.”

Ozil’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after both he and Alexis Sanchez entered into the final 12 months of their contracts at The Emirates.

World Cup winner Ozil will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action next weekend with a home clash against Swansea City.

The win over Everton left the north London side in fifth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new campaign.
