Michael Owen: What I really think about Arsenal signing Alexandre Lacazette
The Liverpool legend talks up Arsenal signing Alexandre Lacazette following his encouraging start to the Premier League season
Michael Owen believes Alexandre Lacazette is a versatile striker capable of bringing different qualities to the Arsenal team.
The Gunners signed the France international in a club-record £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer transfer window.
Lacazette was signed to improve Arsene Wenger’s attacking options despite the Arsenal boss having the likes of Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez in his squad.
And the 26-year-old has certainly brought a clinical edge to the north London outfit following a return of four goals in seven games in the Premier League so far.
The Arsenal striker has scored against Leicester City, Bournemouth and West Brom as all four of the summer signing’s goals have come at the Emirates Stadium.
Lacazette’s next challenge will be to find the back of the net in the Premier League on the road when the Gunners take on Watford on Saturday 14 October.
Former Liverpool striker Owen issued his backing for the Arsenal striker after Lacazette’s solid start to the Premier League season.
“I think he is a goal-scorer, as opposed to an all-rounder,” Owen told BT Sport.
“He’s instinctive and that’s what you need to be if you’re going to score multiple goals. He scored 37 goals for Lyon last season and his finishing is outstanding.
“He’s got a few strings to his bow. He can score headers and with either foot. He’s just got one thing on his mind and he makes the right decisions.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a place in the Champions League this term.
The Gunners also signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Schalke.
