Michael Owen believes Arsenal have been in steady decline over the past 10 to 15 seasons under Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a place in the Champions League.

Arsenal haven’t won the title since 2003-04 when Wenger’s side became the first Premier League club to finish the season unbeaten.

The north London side lost 2-1 to La Liga giants Barcelona in the Champions League final in Paris in 2006 but haven’t reached the quarter-final of the competition since 2010.

The Gunners were 2-1 winners against defending Premier League champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley back in May to win the competition for the third time in four seasons.

Arsenal lost two of their opening three top-flight games this season to raise serious questions about their ability to challenge for a top-four place this season.

However, Wenger’s men are unbeaten in their last five Premier League outings to get their season back on track but trail Manchester City and Manchester United by six points.

Former Liverpool striker Owen believes Arsenal are still in decline under Wenger.

“I’d say it’s been a slow decline since those glory days, 10-15 seasons ago,” Owen told BT Sport.

“And it shows in the results, because they were always fighting for the championship and then it was always getting in the Champions League but not winning the title for 10 years.

“Now, they’re out of the Champions League and fighting to get back into it. They’ve probably lost a place or two every couple of seasons.”

Arsenal signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Schalke 04 defender Sead Kolasinac in the summer transfer window.
