Paul Merson warns Arsene Wenger about Arsenal’s next big test
The Arsenal legend is already worried about their next Premier League game on the road
Paul Merson has warned Arsene Wenger that Arsenal’s next big test will be their trip to London rivals Watford after the international break.
The Gunners will welcome Brighton to The Emirates in the Premier League on Sunday in pursuit of sixth straight home win in all competitions.
Arsenal were 2-0 winners against West Bromwich Albion in north London following Alexandre Lacazette’s double either side of half-time.
The Gunners started the weekend in seventh place in the Premier League table but six points behind current leaders Manchester City.
Arsenal lost 1-0 to Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium in their second fixture before a resounding 4-0 defeat at title rivals Liverpool.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson doesn’t expect Wenger’s men to falter against Brighton but warned the Gunners their next big test will be at Watford on Saturday 14 October.
“They’ve got to keep it up now,” Merson told Sky Sports News on Friday.
“The big test is going to be their next big away game. If they can turn that into a win or a good result like they did against Chelsea, then we’ll be sitting there and thinking Arsenal could be back.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the Gunners went unbeaten throughout the season to make top-flight history.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a place in the Champions League.
The north London outfit signed Lacazette in a club-record £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon, while Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac moved to the Gunners on a free transfer from Schalke 04.
