Ian Wright has suggested Arsenal should look to appoint Marco Silva as Arsene Wenger’s replacement at the north London club.

The Gunners boss is coming under pressure at The Emirates following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road earlier this month.

Troy Deeney cancelled out Per Mertesacker’s opener from the penalty spot before former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley scored an added-time winner in the English capital.

Watford hoisted themselves up to fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool to prompt some optimistic Hornets fans to mention a possible top-four challenge.

Wenger signed a two-year contract extension in the summer despite Arsenal finishing in fifth place in the Premier League to miss out on a spot in the Champions League for the first time under the Frenchman.

Arsenal, who beat Everton 5-2 on Sunday, are already nine points behind current leaders Manchester City to raise questions about Wenger’s long-term future at the north London club.

Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Silva would be very similar in style to his ex-Gunners boss George Graham.

“Well you can see that [why Silva is linked with Arsenal]. His teams are very organised,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“He definitely gets an uplight. He is a training ground manager. He is George Graham-esque. That’s what Arsenal need.”
