Jack Wilshere believes he is fitter than ever as the Arsenal midfielder looks to save his Gunners future.

Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have dominated the headlines at the north London club after the Arsenal duo entered the final 12 months of their contracts.

Wilshere’s future has gone under the radar but the England star is also winding down on his current Arsenal deal and could be available on a free transfer next summer.

The 26-year-old has already hinted that he wants to remain at the Emirates Stadium but Arsene Wenger has refused to clarify whether Wilshere is part of his long-term plans.

The England international was sent out on a season-long loan to Bournemouth last season and the combatative midfielder made two assists in 25 appearances before suffering a broken leg.

Wilshere made his first Arsenal start of the 2017-18 campaign in a 1-0 win against Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup third round at The Emirates last month.

And the Arsenal number 10 claimed that his fitness has never been so good ahead of the Gunners’ clash at Watford on Saturday evening.

“I always hear the boss say it is my first five-metre burst, when I receive the ball and to get away from defenders and I feel that’s getting better and better each day,” Wilshere told Arsenal’s website.

“I feel like the way to improve that is in games when you’re playing against opposition that want to win and want to win the ball back and you have to be able to keep the ball.

“That’s coming back and my fitness levels, if I’m honest, are probably the best they’ve ever been. I look at my numbers after the game and I’ve been out for four months and I’m not the one who hasn’t run the most. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t run the most, we’ve got a lot of players that do that, but my numbers are good so I’m happy.”

Arsenal won the FA Cup for the third time in four seasons back in May thanks to a 2-1 win against Premier League champions Chelsea.
