Arsene Wenger warned about restoring Mesut Ozil to Arsenal team

Martin Keown believes Arsene Wenger should think twice about rushing Mesut Ozil back into his Arsenal team

Arsene Wenger ought to think twice about reinstating Mesut Ozil to his Arsenal team, Martin Keown has claimed.

The Germany international was sidelined with a knee problem for Arsenal’s goalless draw with Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

The Gunners were widely praised for producing a rare resilient performance at a title rival as Aaron Ramsey impressed in the heart of Wenger’s midfield.

The World Cup winner was heavily criticised for an abject performance in a 4-0 loss to Liverpool in their last Premier League game in August.

Arsenal were comfortable 2-0 winners against West Brom at The Emirates on Monday night as Wenger left the former Real Madrid star on the bench.

Ramsey excelled once again in midfield as he won a second-half penalty to allow Alexandre Lacazette to score his second goal of the game.

The 26-year-old has come into his own since Ozil’s injury setback as Arsenal looked to get their season back on track.

And the German star was once again absent on Sunday afternoon due to a knee problem as Arsenal eased to a 2-0 victory over Brighton.

Former Arsenal defender Keown hinted that he wants to see Wenger stick with his current set-up.

“Ramsey can defend and we know he can create,” Keown told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“If Ozil is in the team, we know he doesn’t want to defend.

“They lose something from their team structure. That is a big thing for Wenger to think about.”
