Alexis Sanchez has told Reiss Nelson that it’s “up to him” whether he can make it as one of the top players at Arsenal in the seasons to come.

Nelson has emerged as one of Arsenal’s most exciting young attacking talents in recent months after having been given his chance to impress in the first team by Arsene Wenger.

The 17-year-old Englishman has made a total of five appearances for Arsenal in all competitions so far this season.

He played 85 minutes of the Gunners’ 2-1 victory over Norwich City in the League Cup fourth round on Tuesday night.

Sanchez has been keeping a close eye on Nelson’s development and feels that he has the potential to reach the very top of the game at Arsenal.

Speaking to Arsenal’s website, Sanchez said: “Reiss has real talent, but he still has a lot to learn from other players

“From playing more matches and getting more experience. That’s exactly what the boss is providing for him, so that he can carry on improving as a player.

“He must train every day and get better every day.

“It’s all down to him whether or not he wants to end up at the very top of the sport.”

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Swansea City at The Emirates.

The Gunners head into that game fresh from their impressive 5-2 victory over Everton at Goodison Park last weekend.

That result left Wenger’s men in fifth place in the table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new campaign.
