The Spanish shot-stopper has earned a reputation as one of the finest goalkeepers in the Premier League since his arrival at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.
De Gea initially made something of a slow start to life at Manchester United following his transfer but he has since developed into one of the top stoppers in world football.
His progress at Old Trafford has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid having come close to signing him in the 2015 summer transfer window.
De Gea was once again praised for his performance as he helped Manchester United to keep a clean sheer in their goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.
And Manchester United winger Young feels that De Gea is the best goalkeeper around on current form.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website, Young said: “I don’t think there is [anyone better].
“I said a few seasons ago I thought he could be the world number one and I think he’s shown that he is now.”
Manchester United will aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League next weekend when they travel to Huddersfield.
Jose Mourinho’s men are currently second in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after eight games of the new campaign.
