Gary Neville heaped praise on Antonio Valencia after his performance in Manchester United’s 1-0 win against Benfica on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils travelled to Portugal in search of a third successive Champions League win to move Jose Mourinho’s men onto nine points in Group A.

Manchester United made the breakthrough in the second half thanks to Marcus Rashford’s fortuitous free-kick after Benfica goalkeeper Mile Svilar caught the Englishman’s effort but retreated with the ball over his goal-line.

The Red Devils dropped deep in the final 26 minutes of the Champions League clash as the Premier League side were content to soak up Benfica pressure without David De Gea being tested in the away goal.

Former Manchester United defender Neville reserved special praise for Valencia after their narrow win at Estadio de Luz on Wednesday night.

Neville wrote on Twitter: “Antonio Valencia has become a wonderful Right Back…”

Rashford was forced off with an injury following his winner which will be a concern for Mourinho ahead of this weekend’s trip to Huddersfield Town.

Manchester United have scored eight goals in three Champions League games in the 2017-18 campaign so far.

The Red Devils are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2008 when Manchester United beat Chelsea on penalties in Moscow.

Manchester United are sitting in second place in the Premier League table and two points adrift of Manchester City.
