Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Bournemouth v Chelsea
Mark Lawrenson backs Chelsea to beat Bournemouth with a 2-0 victory on Saturday evening
Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea to claim a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth in their Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues head into the game looking to build on their 4-2 victory over Watford at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
It has been something of a stuttering start to the new season for the west London side, with Chelsea having dropped points on a number of occasions.
Antonio Conte’s men are currently fourth in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City heading into Saturday’s clash at the Vitality Stadium.
And Lawrenson is not expecting the Blues to have any problems when they take on Bournemouth this weekend and look to get back to winning ways.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Bournemouth remain in the relegation zone despite their win at Stoke, and I think they will stay there for at least another week.
“Chelsea beat the Cherries comfortably home and away last season and should be too strong this time too.
“The Blues showed plenty of fight to come back to beat Watford last week, which you would expect with Antonio Conte in charge.
“They are not going to seriously challenge for the title, but they are not just going to disappear – and I would back them to definitely finish in the top four again.”
Chelsea are aiming to try and defend their Premier League title this season after they finished top of the table in Conte’s first campaign in charge last term.
The west London side, however, did not have the distraction of European football last season as they ended up top of the table.
Chelsea have won the Premier League title in two of the last three seasons but it seems they will face some serious competition defending their crown this time around.
