Claude Makelele is backing Alvaro Morata to be a big success at Chelsea this season and beyond.

The Spanish striker signed for the west London club from Real Madrid back in July as Antonio Conte moved quickly to bolster his attacking options during the off-season.

Morata has been in superb form for the Blues and has shown no signs of struggling to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League since his transfer to the English club.

The 24-year-old has scored six goals and made two assists in seven Premier League outings for Conte’s men to help them launch their title defence.

Morata is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during the first half of Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City last weekend.

However, Chelsea legend Makelele is fully expecting Morata to be a big success at Stamford Bridge in the seasons to come.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Makelele said: “He’s a good player, strong player, competitor and international.

“This is the top level. He was at the best team in the world Real Madrid, he scored goals there. He’s gone to Juventus, he scored goals there.

“Of course he will score goals at Chelsea.”

Morata will be hoping to be back fit for Chelsea as soon as possible but it remains to be seen whether he will be available for the Blues’ clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next weekend.

The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Manchester City after seven games.
