Conte makes admission about Batshuayi ahead of Bournemouth v Chelsea
Antonio Conte explains why he's so happy about Michy Batshuayi's recent good form for Chelsea
Antonio Conte has admitted that he has been thrilled by Michy Batshuayi’s recent good form for Chelsea.
The Belgian striker has found his first team opportunities to be somewhat restricted at Stamford Bridge since his move to the club from Marseille in the summer of 2016.
Indeed, the 24-year-old has been limited to just two starts in the Premier League so far this season.
However, Batshuayi has been making a considerable impact from the bench for the Blues and he was the two-goal hero who inspired Chelsea’s comeback against Watford last weekend,
The striker played 85 minutes of Chelsea’s League Cup clash with Everton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
And although he didn’t find the net, Conte was delighted by Batshuayi’s recent improved form for Chelsea.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Conte said: “Michy is improving a lot.
“He’s working well and he’s understanding this football and what I want from him.
“He’s improving a lot and I am very happy. (Against Everton) he didn’t score but he played well. I don’t judge a striker if they score or don’t.”
Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday evening when they travel to Bournemouth.
The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new campaign.
Chelsea won the title in style in Conte’s first campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge last term.
The west London side have won the title in two of the last three seasons.
