Antonio Conte has told Chelsea fans that it won’t be long before Danny Drinkwater is back in top shape at the defending champions.

The England midfielder made his first appearance for the west London club last week when he started the League Cup victory over Everton on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

Drinkwater has endured a frustrating start to life at Stamford Bridge since his move to the club from Leicester City, with the midfielder having struggled with an injury problem.

However, Conte has now confirmed that the midfielder is now close being back fully fit for the west London side.

Speaking at his news conference ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Bournemouth on Saturday, Conte said: “I hope to have my players in good physical condition, all players, and then to face all competitions.

“I hope to do this very soon because Drinkwater is almost ready and Kante is at the stage almost to come back with us.”

Chelsea are looking to defend their Premier League title this season after their impressive triumph in Conte’s first campaign at the club last term.

The Blues are now getting ready to shift their attentions back to Champions League affairs and their trip to Roma in the group stage on Tuesday night.

They drew 3-3 with the Italian side when the two teams did battle at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League earlier this month.
