Frank Lampard has revealed that he has always been a keen admirer of Alvaro Morata, even before he signed for Chelsea.

The Spanish striker has made a strong start to life at Stamford Bridge since signing for the Blues from Real Madrid in the summer.

Morata has scored six goals and made two assists in seven Premier League games for the west London side and it looks as if he has had no problems in adapting to life in England.

The 24-year-old was brought in as the main successor to Diego Costa at Chelsea after Antonio Conte deemed him to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard has been very impressed by what he has seen from Morata in a Chelsea shirt so far this season and is expecting big things from him in the coming weeks and months at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to BT Sport, Lampard said: “I’ve been hugely impressed with him.

“I already liked him from afar, watching him. I think he has technically very good all-round centre-forward play and he’s a centre-forward who naturally finds himself in goal-scoring positions.

“He knows the moves to make in the box and he’s always on the move.”

Morata will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action this weekend with a clash against Watford at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend left them nine points behind leaders Manchester City after eight games of the new campaign.
