Antonio Conte has confirmed that N’Golo Kante is close to making a return to action for Chelsea following his lay-off with a muscular injury.

Kante has been out of action for the west London club since suffering the problem while on international duty with France earlier this month.

The midfielder’s most recent appearance for Chelsea came during the 1-0 loss to Manchester City before the international break.

However, Conte has now indicated that Kante is close to making his return to action, although he didn’t confirm whether he would be ready to feature when the Blues take on Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Chelsea booked their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking at his post-match news conference at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, Conte said of Kante: “He’s progressing well. I am happy, I saw him in a good physical condition.

“We need to keep calm and find the right moment to put him in the team. Now it will be very easy to tell him to play.

“We must pay attention and to find the best solution for him. He’s ready.”

Chelsea head into their clash with Bournemouth on Saturday looking to make it back to back wins in the top flight after their comeback victory over Watford last weekend.

That result left the Blues in fourth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new campaign.
