Chelsea signing will emulate Didier Drogba, claims ex-midfielder
The ex Chelsea star is confident Alvaro Morata will emulate Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge
Alvaro Morata is already on his way to emulating Didier Drogba at Chelsea, according to Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The defending Premier League champions signed Morata in a £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window to bolster their attacking options.
The Chelsea signing has already scored six goals in seven games in the Premier League to make a brilliant start to his Blues career including a hat-trick at Stoke City.
The 24-year-old scored his first Champions League goal for Chelsea in the Spanish capital last week as Morata scored a second-half equaliser in a 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid.
Morata moved to Chelsea to replace Diego Costa after Antonio Conte informed the Spain international that he is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
The summer signing won the Serie A and the Coppa Italia twice during his Juventus career, while Morata has won La Liga and two Champions League crowns during two spells at Real Madrid.
Former Chelsea midfielder Wright-Phillips believes Morata is on course to emulate Drogba at Stamford Bridge given his brilliant start to his career at the west London side.
“I wouldn’t say that Morata is in Didier’s space now but if he keeps scoring and running in behind and creating chances for others then he’s heading in that direction because he does the same things that Didier did,” said Wright-Phillips, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“He runs into channels, he creates chances, and he finishes.”
Chelsea have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons.
