Pat Nevin has admitted that there is a real possibility Antonio Conte could leave Chelsea given the Blues’ high turnover of managers under Roman Abramovich.

The Chelsea boss led the west London side to the Premier League title with two games to spare in the Italian’s first season in the English top flight following his appointment as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor at Stamford Bridge.

Conte missed out on the double following a surprise 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley before losing on penalties to the Gunners in the Community Shield at the home of English football at the start of the 2017-18 season.

The Chelsea manager missed out on some of his top targets in the summer transfer window after Everton striker Romelu Lukaku opted to move to Manchester United and Brazil international Alex Sandro remained at Serie A giants Juventus.

Conte has been named as a potential contender to take over the reins at AC Milan from Vincenzo Montella at the end of the 2017-18 Serie A campaign.

Former Blues winger Nevin admitted there is a real possibility that Conte could leave the west London club given Chelsea’s record of hiring and firing under Abramovich.

“You kind of let these comments wash over you now,” Nevin told Daily Star.

“When you’ve been following Chelsea as long as some of us have, you know they change manager very quickly but still have brilliant managers. They seem to make good choices.

“Although Conte is very popular and I’d love him, one hundred per cent, to stay for the next five years, you just sort of shrug your shoulders and accept that this is the business we are in.

“It might change, it might adapt and you might have to go with someone else.
