Harry Redknapp has revealed that Eden Hazard was close to a move to Tottenham Hotspur before the forward moved to Chelsea in 2012.

The Belgium international has established himself as one Chelsea’s most-important players over the past five seasons at the west London side.

Hazard scored 14 goals in 38 games in Chelsea’s 2014-15 title success before the 26-year-old forward netted 16 times in their title-winning campaign under Antonio Conte last term.

The Chelsea number 10 was named the PFA player of the year in 2015 following his dominant performances in their title success under Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

However, Hazard was close to a move to White Hart Lane instead of Stamford Bridge when the Belgian forward was considering his potential options in the Premier League.

Former Spurs boss Redknapp revealed that he went to France to meet with Hazard but the forward opted to make the switch to Chelsea ahead of the Lilywhites.

“I went to France and met him in a hotel room,” Redknapp told BT Sport Tonight.

“I was with him for three hours, that’s probably why he didn’t sign!

“I could have had him at Tottenham.

“We wanted him but the club didn’t get the deal done.”

Hazard scored Chelsea’s winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium.

The Belgian star returned from a broken ankle last month after Hazard suffered the injury setback during international duty at the end of the 2017-17 campaign.

Chelsea will host Manchester United in their next Premier League game at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
