The Premier League leaders made the trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening to take on defending champions Chelsea in the biggest game of the 2017-18 season so far.
Manchester City produced a dominant performance against the title holders and former Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne scored a second-half winner in west London.
Jose Mourinho’s side were 4-0 winners against Crystal Palace to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table after seven games.
Chelsea have now lost to Burnley and Manchester City this season as well as a goalless stalemate with Arsenal to leave Antonio Conte’s side six points behind the leaders.
The Blues won their second Premier League title in three seasons with two games to spare last term thanks to finishing seven points above their closest title rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp warned Manchester City and Manchester United that Chelsea can’t be discounted in the Premier League title race – yet.
“Everything is clicking into gear for Guardiola but, as we saw last season, he can be unwilling to compromise on his style when things start to go wrong,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“Mourinho is more pragmatic and at Manchester United he has a team of destroyers who have scored four goals in more than half of their fixtures in all competitions so far.
“You cannot yet rule out Chelsea or Tottenham — but the way Guardiola’s men dismantled Antonio Conte’s side was frightening.
“That outstanding quality gives City the edge.”
Manchester City have scored 22 goals and have conceded twice in seven Premier League games to underline their status as title favourites.
