Pat Nevin: Chelsea star is irreplaceable, he needs superhuman recovery

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin describes N'Golo Kante as "irreplaceable" in the Blues team

Pat Nevin admits N’Golo Kante is irreplaceable in the Chelsea team.

The Blues midfielder is sidelined with a hamstring injury which the 26-year-old suffered during France’s World Cup qualifier with Bulgaria last weekend.

Kante was forced to sit out Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to the Premier League’s basement club Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.

The ex Leicester City midfielder has proven a key player in Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side since a £30m move from the Foxes in the 2016 summer transfer window.

Kante helped the Blues to win the Premier League title with two games to spare to lift their first top-flight crown under Conte since the Italian took over the reins at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will welcome Serie A giants AS Roma to west London in the Champions League on Wednesday night in search of a third successive win in the group stage.

Former Blues winger Nevin believes Chelsea will struggle without Kante given what he brings to Conte’s midfield.

“N’Golo’s quality is irreplaceable by any single player right now,” Nevin told Chelsea’s website.

“His energy certainly became even more obvious in its absence at Selhurst Park; let’s hope he is as superhuman at recovery as he is at dominating midfields around the country.

“It is actually quite hard to imagine him injured as he seems so robust when he makes those midfield tackles against all the odds but still emerges with the ball time and again.”

Kante won the Premier League title with Leicester in 2016 before the defensive midfielder helped Chelsea to win the top-flight crown 12 months later.

The French star was named the 2017 PFA player of the year back in April.
