Claude Makelele has admitted that he has been hugely impressed by Tiemoue Bakayoko’s improvements in recent years before signing for Chelsea.

The midfielder joined the west London club from French side Monaco back in the summer transfer window after Antonio Conte opted to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.

Bakayoko has been a regular fixture in the first team for the west London side and he will be hoping to hold down a regular spot in the coming weeks and months.

The 23-year-old has scored one goal and made two assists for Chelsea in all competitions since his transfer to the west London club back in the summer.

Former Chelsea star Makelele says that he is a huge fan of the midfielder and is backing him to continue to develop at Chelsea.

Makelele is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard: “I met him when I was working in Monaco and I pushed him to make that position his own.

“He defends with such quality now.”

Bakayoko will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to Crystal Palace next weekend.

The west London side are aiming to bounce back from the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge before the international break.

Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League table.
