Chelsea sent message about Man United summer signing
Danny Higginbotham admits he can't understand why Chelsea allowed Nemanja Matic to join Man United
Danny Higginbotham has admitted that he cannot believe Chelsea allowed Manchester United to sign Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.
The Serbia midfielder signed for the Red Devils after Antonio Conte deemed him to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko at Chelsea from Monaco.
Matic has slotted seamlessly into the Manchester United first team since his switch and he has been a regular fixture in the starting line-up at Old Trafford.
Indeed, Matic has started each and every one of Manchester United’s games in the Premier League so far this season.
The 29-year-old played a key role in helping Chelsea to win the title under Antonio Conte last season.
And former defender Higginbotham admits that he cannot understand why Chelsea allowed him to leave and sign for a Premier League rival.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Friday morning, Higginbotham said: “He’s been absolutely brilliant this season.
“I couldn’t believe it when Chelsea allowed him to come to Manchester United.
“He just does everything so well and so effortlessly.
“His positioning is brilliant, he allows the players in front of him to go and express themselves.
“But when he has the opportunity, he’s got very quick feet as well himself.”
Matic will be expecting to line up for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime.
The Red Devils are currently second in the table and six points ahead of Chelsea after seven games of the new season.
