Gary Cahill has heaped praise on Michy Batshuayi and suggested to Antonio Conte that he deserves a more regular run in the first team with Chelsea.

The Belgian striker was the hero again for the west London club on Saturday when he came off the bench to score twice and inspire Chelsea to a thrilling 4-2 victory over Watford at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

Batshuayi has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Chelsea since his move to the club from Marseille back in the summer of 2016.

However, he has regularly provided important goals for Conte’s men, including the strike which clinched Chelsea the title at West Brom back in May.

And Chelsea captain Cahill has been thrilled by the way Batshuayi has been adapting at Stamford Bridge and how hard he has been working on stepping his game up.

Cahill told Chelsea’s website: “I’m sure he has things to improve but as a player that’s exactly how you respond.

“He’s come on and changed the game for us. He scored two goals and arguably won us the game.

“I’m very pleased for him and I’m sure the manager and all the coaches are pleased for him.

“When you have a little sticky patch, to come on and do that is the best way to respond, fantastic.”

Chelsea are currently preparing for their League Cup fourth round clash against Everton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Batshuayi will be hoping to feature from the start and again prove his worth to the Blues ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League next weekend.
