Pat Nevin is confident Chelsea will beat Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday night before securing a win against Watford in the Premier League next weekend.

The defending Premier League champions lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last weekend as Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal and Wilfried Zaha’s strike secured three points for the division’s worst team.

Chelsea have succumbed to back-to-back losses in the Premier League after former Blues midfielder Kevin De Bruyne scored a second-half winner for Manchester City in a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

The Premier League title holders were 6-0 winners against Azerbaijani club Qarabag in their opener at Stamford Bridge before a brilliant 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital last month.

Former Chelsea winger Nevin is tipping the Blues to secure three points against Roma in west London on Wednesday night before Antonio Conte’s men take on Watord next weekend.

“At the start of the season there was a strange freakish result against Burnley but the reaction was good,” Nevin told Chelsea’s website.

“The same has to happen after the Palace defeat. Six points against Roma and Watford will certainly lift the spirits and put us all back in a fairly good place again.”

Chelsea are nine points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City following the Citizens’ brilliant 7-2 victory over Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

The Blues have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons.

Chelsea lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season.
