Mesut Ozil praised Arsenal for showing character after the Gunners came from behind to secure a 5-2 win at Everton on Sunday afternoon.

The north London side made the trip to Goodison Park looking to secure their first win on the road in the Premier League this season following losses at Stoke City, Liverpool and Watford.

Arsenal lost 2-1 against the Toffees on Merseyside last term to heap further pressure on the Gunners despite Everton’s disappointing run of form in the Premier League.

Everton broke the deadlock in the first half thanks to former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney but Arsene Wenger’s men responded in style at Goodison Park.

Nacho Monreal, Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey all got on the score sheet to give Arsenal a stunning 4-1 lead to silence their critics in style.

Oumar Niasse made it 4-2 in added time before Alexis Sanchez restored their four-goal cushion deep into injury time.

Ozil was thrilled with Arsenal’s reaction to going behind in the first half after a landslide win at the home of their top-six rivals.

“We are so happy to win the game,” Ozil told BBC Sport.

“We knew it would be difficult but we showed character. We believed in ourselves.”

Ozil has scored one goal and has made one assist in seven appearances in the Premier League in the 2017-18 season.
