Frank Lampard has hailed Alvaro Morata’s “classy” style of play following his transfer to Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer.

The 24-year-old striker has earned plenty of praise for the strong performances he has produced for the Blues so far this season as he continues to adapt to the rigours of English football.

Morata netted a hat-trick against Stoke last month and then followed that up with a fine display in the Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid in midweek.

The striker was forced off in the first half of Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Saturday night with a suspected hamstring strain.

However, former Blues midfielder Lampard has been hugely impressed by what he has seen from Morata in a Chelsea shirt so far this season.

Speaking to BT Sport on Saturday, Lampard said: “Another side of his game is his hold-up play. We saw it in midweek [against Atletico Madrid].

“He’s very classy. Everything sticks and he brings other people into play.”

It remains to be seen how long Morata will be out of action for after he came off during the first half with the muscular problem on Saturday.

Chelsea return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday 14 October.

Their loss to Manchester City left them in fourth place in the Premier League table and six points behind the leaders.;
