Michael Owen reacts to Daniel Sturridge’s goal in Liverpool’s win over Huddersfield
The Liverpool legend hails Daniel Sturridge's second-half opener at Anfield after a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town
Michael Owen praised Daniel Sturridge for a stylish finish after the Liverpool striker made the breakthrough in a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
The England international was handed his fourth start of the Premier League season for the visit of the Terriers as Jurgen Klopp’s side looked to end a poor run.
Sturridge didn’t take a first-half penalty as Mohamed Salah took on spot-kick duties after Brazil international Roberto Firmino was brought down in the penalty area.
The Egypt international missed his penalty effort to leave Liverpool frustrated but Sturridge finally broke the deadlock with a lifted finish in the 50th minute.
The 28-year-old’s brilliant goal was his second of the Premier League season having found his first-team opportunities limited in the Liverpool team so far this term.
Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum sealed three points for the Reds to secure their first Premier League win in four games.
Former Liverpool striker Owen singled out Sturridge for special praise on Twitter after the centre-forward’s brilliant goal to open the scoring in the Premier League clash.
Owen wrote on Twitter: “Cool as you like that finish from @DanielSturridge. Most people would blast it. Great to watch a proper finisher.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
