Emile Heskey has told Liverpool that finishing in the top four is “must” for the Reds this season.

The Reds have made something of a stuttering start to the new Premier League season under Jurgen Klopp as they look to build on their fourth-placed finish from last term.

Liverpool were thrashed 4-1 by Tottenham Hotspur last weekend as they suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of Mauricio Pochettino’s men at Wembley.

The Merseyside outfit have only won three of their opening nine games in the Premier League so far this season to leave them 12 points behind leaders Manchester City in the race for the title.

And former Liverpool striker Heskey believes that the Reds must now concentrate on turning their season around and securing a top-four finish.

Speaking to 888sport, Heskey said: “It’s a difficult one because they’re really falling adrift of the leaders.

“The top four is a must but whether they can do it is another thing.”

Liverpool return to Premier League action at the weekend when they take on Huddersfield Town at Anfield.

The Terriers head into that game fresh from having secured a shock 2-1 victory over Manchester United last weekend.

Liverpool finished fourth in the Premier League table last season as they secured Champions League qualification in Klopp’s first full campaign in charge at Anfield.
