Jose Mourinho: What I really think about Liverpool FC and their fans
Jose Mourinho opens up about Liverpool FC and the club's fans
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is a huge admirer of Liverpool’s fans and the history surrounding the Merseyside outfit.
The Red Devils boss took his Manchester United side to Anfield to take on Jurgen Klopp’s men in the Premier League game of the weekend on Saturday lunchtime.
Liverpool are one of England’s most successful clubs, although they have never won the Premier League title, and Anfield is known for the brilliant atmosphere generated by the home fans on Merseyside.
And speaking before his side’s trip to Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday, Mourinho insisted that he was full of admiration for Liverpool and the club’s traditions.
Mourinho told a news conference on Friday afternoon: “You are speaking like Anfield like it is a big problem. It is a satisfaction. That is what we want. I have never seen a player to complain that ‘oh this atmosphere was very strong’.
“We go to play against a big team with a big tradition, in an amazing stadium with great tradition.
“We know the fans have huge animosity against Manchester United historically but this is what we want.
“So we are very happy in our careers to have one more opportunity to play in these beautiful conditions. It is beautiful to play at Anfield. Beautiful.”
Liverpool are now preparing to return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when they take on Maribor looking for their first group-stage win of the season.
The Reds have been held to draws in their opening group stage games in Europe’s elite club competitions against both Sevilla and Spartak Moscow.
Klopp is aiming to guide Liverpool to a Premier League title challenge this season after the Reds finished in fourth place in the table in his first full campaign in charge at Anfield last term.
