Alan Shearer warns Liverpool FC to expect a different Man United performance at Anfield
The Newcastle legend tells Liverpool FC that Manchester United will show more adventure at Anfield this season
Alan Shearer has warned Liverpool that Jose Mourinho won’t deploy conservative tactics when Manchester United make the trip to Anfield on Saturday.
The Red Devils are sitting level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table after scoring 21 times and conceding two goals in their opening seven games.
Manchester United are already seven points clear of their bitter rivals Liverpool after the Reds managed to record one win in their last four Premier League outings.
Mourinho attracted criticism last season when Manchester United failed to show any adventure as the Red Devils boss accused of parking the bus in a goalless draw at Anfield.
The Manchester United manager’s tactics managed to suffocate Liverpool’s free-scoring attack to deny Klopp what would have been a landmark win in the 2016-17 season.
However, the current Liverpool defence have conceded 12 times in seven games and will come up against a Manchester United attack that has scored eight times in their last two fixtures.
Former Newcastle striker Shearer is tipping Mourinho’s men to produce a more attacking performance against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
“It will be almost a year to the day Mourinho since last visited Anfield,” Shearer told The Sun.
“Just 12 months ago United were the underdogs trying to combat a team who had already hit four twice and five, in their opening seven games giving the Liverpool fans a sense that this could be their time again.
“Mourinho completely stifled them on that last visit as the game finished goalless.
“Back then the Portuguese coach was still getting to grips with his new club.
“While they may have finished behind Liverpool in the table, they have two trophies to show for their work last season — the Europa League and League Cup — and return to Anfield joint-top of the table on points and favourites for victory.
“Who knows, the occasion may lift Liverpool to victory.”
Manchester United signed Romelu Lukaku in a £75m deal from Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.
