Jaap Stam has warned Manchester United to expect a difficult game against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

The Red Devils will make the short trip to Merseyside looking to protect their unbeaten start to the 2017-18 Premier League season.

Manchester United have won six of their seven games in the top flight so far this term and have only dropped points in a 2-2 draw at Stoke City last month.

Liverpool have only managed to record one victory in their last seven games in all competitions to stunt their progress in the Premier League.

The Reds are seven points behind leaders Manchester City and Manchester United in the Premier League table.

Liverpool played out a goalless draw with the Red Devils at Anfield in the Premier League last season as Jose Mourinho’s men adopted a negative approach.

While Manchester United are the form team ahead of the north-west derby thanks to their return of 21 goals and six clean sheets, ex Red Devils defender Stam had a warning for Mourinho’s players.

“They’re not the favourite games,” Stam told Sky Sports.

“Everyone is looking forward to this but as a player you know there is a lot of attention, a lot of pressure on these games as well.

“You want to show yourself to the opposition in what you can do as a team.”

Manchester United finished in sixth spot in the Premier League last season to end up two places behind Liverpool, who secured the final Champions League qualification spot.
