Michael Owen has warned Manchester United that their trip to Liverpool will be the first real test of their title credentials.

The Merseyside outfit have been in a tough run of form following one win in their last seven games in all competitions.

Liverpool were already seven points adrift of the current leaders Manchester City and Manchester United following seven games.

The Red Devils have barely put a foot wrong in the title race so far following a return of 19 points from a possible 21.

Manchester United have scored 21 goals and have kept six clean sheets to underline their status as potential title winners.

The 20-time English champions’ faltered at the bet365 Stadium following a 2-2 draw with Stoke City in their opening fixture in September.

Former Liverpool striker Owen warned Manchester United that their trip to Anfield will be a big test despite their impressive early-season form.

“The only thing I’d say is Man United haven’t really been tested this season,” Owen told BT Sport.

“They go to Anfield soon. That will be a major, major test. As much as we’re praising them, they haven’t had a big hitter yet.”

Liverpool have managed to win three of their opening seven games to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side seven points behind current leaders Manchester City and Manchester United.

The Reds played out a goalless draw with Mourinho’s men at Anfield last season, while Liverpool secured a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the return fixture.
