Michael Owen states his prediction for Liverpool FC v Man United
Michael Owen is tipping Liverpool FC to draw with Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday afternoon
Michael Owen is backing Liverpool secure a draw with Manchester United when the bitter rivals go head-to-head at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will host the Premier League title contenders at Anfield looking to make an immediate return to winning ways following a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park before the international break.
Liverpool have only managed to win one of their last seven games in all competitions to stunt their progress in both the Champions League and the Premier League over the past month or so.
The Merseyside outfit have conceded 12 times in seven games in the Premier League this season in stark contrast to Manchester United who have kept six clean sheets.
Jose Mourinho’s side were 4-0 winners against Crystal Palace in their last Premier League game before the international break to take their tally to 21 goals in seven outings.
Manchester United drew twice with Liverpool in the Premier League last term as Mourinho adopted a pragmatic approach to both fixtures.
Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen expects the bitter rivals to play out a third successive stalemate at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
“The Reds are without a win in their last six in the Premier League against United although they did knock them out of the Europa League back in the 2015-16 season,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Jose Mourinho’s side “parked the bus” in the corresponding game last season, have only conceded in one league game so far this term and I don’t expect they will play an expansive game on Saturday.”
Owen added: “United will be without both Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini through injury although likely replacement Ander Herrera is an able deputy. The game will be played in a white-hot Anfield atmosphere and I cannot split the sides.”
Manchester United are level on points with current leaders Manchester City.
