Jamie Redknapp: What will happen with Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool FC in January
Jamie Redknapp gives his honest thoughts on Philippe Coutinho's current situation at Liverpool FC
Jamie Redknapp believes that it’s unlikely Liverpool will sell Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window.
The Brazilian playmaker was heavily linked with a move away from Anfield during the summer as Barcelona tried to sign the 25-year-old attacker.
However, a move to Camp Nou failed to materialise for the Brazilian as Liverpool refused to do business and sell the attacking midfielder.
There is inevitably going to be fresh speculation suggesting that Barcelona could once again try and sign Coutinho in the January transfer window.
However, former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp doesn’t believe that the Reds’ stance on the player is likely to change in the mid-season transfer window.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Friday morning, Redknapp said: “I’m sure he was frustrated about that [the failed move to Barcelona].
“I don’t think the situation will change in January but even if it does, you’re going to get him in top form up until then.”
Coutinho has been in good form for Liverpool since being reintegrated into the team following the transfer saga over the summer.
He will be hoping to feature for the Reds when Jurgen Klopp’s men return to Champions League action on Tuesday night with a crunch clash against Maribor.
Liverpool have drawn both of their opening two Champions League group games so far this season, against Sevilla and Spartak Moscow.
Coutinho has emerged as one of the Premier League’s finest attacking talents since arriving at the club from Inter Milan in January 2013.
