Jamie Carragher sends message to Liverpool FC fans about Daniel Sturridge

Jamie Carragher believes that Daniel Sturridge is unlikely to hit the same heights for Liverpool as he did in the 2013-14 Premier League season.

The England striker was in sensational form that term as he combined with Luis Suarez to help Liverpool mount a title challenge before they eventually ended up second in the table.

Sturridge was criticised for his performance for the Merseyside outfit on Sunday as he struggled to have much of an impact on the game during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

And Carragher believes that Sturridge is going to struggle to replicate his form from a few seasons ago under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s draw, Carragher said: “Whenever we talk about him, because he hasn’t played so much, we keep going back to that season when Liverpool nearly won the league and he was devastating with Luis Suarez.

“We keep thinking that player’s there – I don’t think it is, if I’m honest. Whether it’s injuries or not playing enough…

“The reason he played today is because Roberto Firmino’s not playing well.”

Liverpool’s draw with Newcastle left the Reds in seventh place in the Premier League table and seven points off top spot.

The Reds will return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Manchester United at Anfield in front of their home fans.

Klopp is aiming for his Liverpool side to improve on their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last season as they bid to challenge for the title this term, but his side have only won one game in seven outings in all competitions.
