Alan Shearer told Jurgen Klopp to save his harsh words for his Liverpool players and not match officials following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle United.

The Reds squandered a 1-0 lead at St James’ Park to leave Newcastle with a point after Joselu cancelled out Philippe Coutinho’s brilliant opener in the Premier League clash.

Coutinho broke the deadlock with a superb long-range strike but another defensive lapse led to Newcastle forward Joselu equalising seven minutes after the Brazilian’s effort.

Liverpool are seven points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City following a return of three victories in their opening seven fixtures this term.

Klopp was furious with the match officials following Liverpool’s 1-1 stalemate at Newcastle as the Reds continue to struggle in the Premier League.

The Merseyside outfit have only managed to win one of their last seven games in all competitions to heap pressure on Klopp.

Former Newcastle legend Shearer claimed that the Liverpool boss needs to have some strong words with his players following their latest unconvincing performance at St James’ Park.

“If I was Jurgen Klopp I’d save the song words for his players, not the referee,” Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League in the current campaign.
