Jurgen Klopp is under no pressure from the Liverpool board despite a disappointing run of results, according to former chief executive Christian Purslow.

The Reds initially made a positive start to the season following a return of seven points from their opening three games, which included a resounding 4-0 win against Arsenal.

Liverpool secured their place in the Champions League group stage thanks to a 6-4 aggregate win against Hoffenheim in the playoffs.

However, the Merseyside outfit have only won one of their last seven games in all competitions to leave Liverpool seven points adrift of current leaders Manchester City.

Klopp has faced criticism over his inability to improve the Liverpool defence after conceding 12 times in their opening seven fixtures, which is the worse record of any team in the top half of the table.

The 47-year-old celebrated his two-year anniversary as Liverpool boss last week and the German coach has led the Reds to a fourth-place finish plus appearances in the EFL Cup and Europa League finals.

However, former Liverpool chief executive Purslow doesn’t believe Klopp is under pressure from the club’s board despite a difficult run of results for the Merseyside outfit.

“If you mean from his ownership, none whatsoever,” Purslow told Sky Sports.

“He’s two years into this job that looked to be perfect for Jurgen Klopp.

“There are great similarities between what he achieved at Dortmund, what he was expected to achieve – which was to compete with an absolute behemoth in Bayern Munich, while spending less money, both on wages and in the transfer market.

“That is the job description at Liverpool.”

Liverpool will welcome bitter rivals Manchester United to Anfield in their next Premier League game on Saturday afternoon.
