Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool FC need to sign five defenders
The former Man United midfielder Eamon Dunphy believes the Reds need a leader at the back
Eamon Dunphy believes Liverpool are lacking a leader in their back four and need at least five defensive signings.
The Reds lost 4-1 to top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last weekend after Harry Kane scored twice in their landslide Premier League win.
Liverpool have already conceded 15 times in five games in the Premier League this season to raise serious questions about their back four.
The Merseyside outfit only signed one defender in the summer transfer window after Andy Robertson completed a £8m switch from Hull City.
The Reds have conceded 16 goals in 10 games in the Premier League this season to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side in sixth place in the table.
Former Man United star Dunphy urged Klopp to sign a centre-half to provide some leadership in his defence in the summer transfer window.
“There’s something very wrong there. They need a goalkeeper and they need about five defenders,” Dunphy told RTE Sport.
“He recognises that they are no good but he doesn’t know what to do about it. This guy doesn’t seem to be able to do it and I don’t think he should managing Liverpool if he can’t get the resources from the board to buy good defenders.
“You need to have a leader for your defence, somebody who does the organisation on the pitch, like John Terry.”
The Reds were 3-0 winners against Huddersfield Town at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds have signed 11 players since Klopp took over the reins at the Anfield outfit back in 2015.
