Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he is not happy with his first two years at Liverpool.

The 50-year-old head coach was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor in October 2015 following a disappointing start to the season under the Northern Irishman.

Klopp led Liverpool to an eighth-place finish to make a slow start to his career in the Premier League but the Reds reached the League Cup and Champions League finals.

The Reds boss signed seven players in the 2016 summer transfer window to improve his squad for his first full Premier League season in charge at the Merseyside club.

Klopp managed to guide Liverpool to a fourth-place finish last term to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.

Liverpool recorded just three victories in their opening seven Premier League games to leave Klopp’s side seven points adrift of Manchester City and Manchester United heading into the recent international break.

Asked about his two-year anniversary as Liverpool boss which occurred earlier this month, Klopp told his pre-match media conference ahead of the visit of Manchester United:

“I’m not overly happy. That’s why I said, it was not a big party [for my two-year anniversary]. I didn’t immediately open a bottle of champagne.

“That’s because I feel we are in the middle everything. We’re not at the start of course but there’s still a long way to go.”

Liverpool, who drew 0-0 with Manchester United on Saturday, signed four players in the most recent summer transfer window but missed out on top target Virgil van Dijk.
