Paul Ince has told Jurgen Klopp to finally address Liverpool’s “alarming” defensive problems.

The Merseyside outfit lost 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last weekend following goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.

Dejan Lovren was hauled off after a mere 32 minutes as the Croatia international made two mistakes for Tottenham’s opening goals.

Liverpool have conceded 15 goals in five games in their last five Premier League games on the road to raise serious questions about Klopp’s defence.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach failed to sign a new centre-half in the summer transfer window despite chasing Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.

In fact, Klopp has only signed Schalke 04 defender Joel Matip, Estonia international Ragnar Klavan and Scottish full-back Andy Robertson since taking over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.

The German coach inherited a Liverpool team with a tendency to leak goals but three of their biggest weak links remain in Klopp’s team as he continues to persist with Lovren, Simon Mignolet and Alberto Moreno.

Former Liverpool midfielder Ince called on Klopp to finally tackle the defensive issues in the Reds team.

“I would never normally be one to harp on about the obvious issues in Liverpool’s defence, but something seriously needs to be done,” Klopp told Paddy Power’s website.

“They need protection, I was listening to Klopp going on about his philosophy with attacking with six players.

“I understand and respect that, but you’ve still got to address the issues at the back. You’ve got to give those players protection, because teams are playing them and knowing they can exploit that weakness.

“If we’re being totally honest, it could have been six or seven goals for Spurs last week. And how does Klopp not see how alarming that is?”

Liverpool will host promoted side Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at Anfield this weekend.
