Mane will miss the next six weeks due to the hamstring problem which he picked up on international duty during Senegal’s 2-0 victory over Cape Verde on Saturday evening.
The £30m winger will miss Liverpool’s bitter clash against Manchester United as well as fixtures against their top-four rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Senegal international has been one Liverpool’s standout performers in the opening seven weeks of the season despite missing three games due to suspension.
Mane scored three goals in his opening three Premier League games and the 24-year-old terrorised the Arsenal defence in a 4-0 win against their title rivals at Anfield in August.
The African forward was controversially sent off during Liverpool’s 5-0 loss at Manchester City before he returned to the starting line-up for their 1-1 draw at Newcastle United ahead of the international break.
Former Liverpool defender Jones, whose career was cut short due to a knee injury, admitted that Mane’s injury was bad news for Klopp ahead of this weekend’s clash against Manchester United.
Jones wrote on his Twitter page: “Massive blow for us that #mane 🙈”
Mane scored 13 times in 31 games in the Premier League during his first season at Anfield.
