Xabi Alonso opens up about Steven Gerrard becoming Liverpool FC manager
The former Liverpool midfielder is confident Steven Gerrard can blossom into a great Reds manager in the future

Xabi Alonso believes Steven Gerrard will make a great Liverpool manager in the future.
The Reds appointed their legendary skipper as their Under-18s head coach in the summer as Gerrard opted to start his managerial career at youth level at Melwood.
Gerrard called time on his professional career in 2016 after the former England captain moved to Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy from Liverpool in 2015.
Liverpool have endured a tough start to the 2017-18 season following a return of one win in their last seven games to stunt their progress in the Champions League and the Premier League.
Klopp has been coming under increasing pressure due to his inability to improve Liverpool’s defending since taking over from his predecessor Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
Gerrard has naturally been touted as a future Liverpool boss given his talismanic performances on the pitch at Anfield throughout his playing career.
Former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid midfielder Alonso believes his former Liverpool team-mate Gerrard will make a great Reds manager in the future.
“I’m following the early steps of his career closely and for sure he has all the attributes to become a big manager and a Liverpool manager one day,” the Spaniard told Liverpool’s website.
“You can be a great player but being a manager is a different task. For sure, he’s really focused and if he’s able to deliver that message he will be a good one.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window but only won defender in Hull City left-back Andy Robertson.
