Ex-striker: Liverpool FC attacker is more important than Philippe Coutinho
Dean Saunders says Sadio Mane is a more important player to Liverpool FC than Philippe Coutinho
Dean Saunders believes that Sadio Mane is a more important player to Liverpool than Philippe Coutinho.
The Senegal international has earned plenty of praise for his strong performances for the Reds since signing for Jurgen Klopp’s team from Southampton last summer.
Liverpool were dealt a big blow before their crunch clash with Manchester United on Saturday after Mane was ruled out for a number of weeks with a hamstring injury he picked up while on international duty with Senegal.
It means that the Reds will be without the attacker for the crunch clash with Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday and it has not yet been confirmed when he will be back available for selection.
And former striker Saunders reckons that Mane has overtaken Coutinho as Liverpool’s most important attacking player in recent months.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Saunders said: “If you ask me who I want, Coutinho or Mane, I’d pick Mane, for whatever team.
“If you could only have one or the other [for sure I’d take Mane].
“He’s that good and it’s a massive blow for Liverpool because he’s the pace across the top of the pitch. He’s the man who runs in behind defences and he makes Liverpool a different proposition.”
Liverpool head into Saturday’s showdown with Manchester United looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League after the disappointment of their 1-1 draw with Newcastle United last time out.
The Reds have only won three of their opening seven Premier League games to leave them off the pace in the race for the title and seven points behind leaders Manchester City.
