Jurgen Klopp told how to get best out of 25-year-old Liverpool star ahead of Man United clash
Ray Wilkins tells Jurgen Klopp to give Philippe Coutinho free rein when Liverpool FC host Man United this weekend
Ray Wilkins has urged Jurgen Klopp to give Philippe Coutinho “license to do whatever he wants” in the Liverpool team.
The Reds managed to fend off interest from La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window despite the Spanish club making multiple offers.
Coutinho handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to the La Liga leaders but Liverpool held firm and refused to alter their stance on the number 10.
Liverpool welcomed Coutinho back to their starting line-up for the first time this season in a 3-2 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last month.
The Brazilian midfielder scored a superb free-kick to break the deadlock at the King Power Stadium before the attacking midfielder scored a superb goal in a 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow.
Coutinho scored in his third successive game with a world-class strike from outside the box in Liverpool’s frustrating 1-1 stalemate with Newcastle United at St James’ Park in their final game before the international break.
Liverpool will welcome their bitter rivals Manchester United to Anfield in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon.
Former Chelsea coach Wilkins urged Klopp to give Coutinho free rein to cause havoc against Jose Mourinho’s men.
“He’s so intelligent, so creative. Just give him license to do whatever he wants to do,” Wilkins told Sky Sports News on Monday.
Manchester United head into the game having won six of their opening seven Premier League matches to leave them second in the table.
