Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has admitted that he will continue to work as hard as possible to break into the first team at Liverpool this season.

The England midfielder has endured something of a stuttering start to life at Anfield since his move to the Merseyside club from Arsenal on transfer deadline day back in August.

The 24-year-old has so far only started one game in all competition for the Merseyside outfit as he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain did come off the bench to score his first goal for the Reds in the 7-0 thrashing of Maribor in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

There have been question marks about whether Oxlade-Chamberlain will be able to hold down a regular spot in the Liverpool team in current form.

But the player himself has admitted that he is completely ready to fight for a first-team sport at Anfield.

Speaking to BT Sport after Tuesday night’s game, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “It’s a competitive team that I’ve come into.

“Everybody is fighting for their place. I am ready for whenever I get my chance.

“It’s a new style of play. I’m still learning it. When I get my opportunities, I’ll try and do the best I can.”

The England international will be hoping to make his first start of the season for the Reds in the Premier League on Sunday when the Merseyside outfit take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
