Jamie Redknapp named Anthony Martial as the difference in Manchester United’s 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Red Devils struggled to make the breakthrough in the first half as Tottenham looked to probe the Manchester United defence without Harry Kane.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho opted to start with Marcus Rashford but Martial replaced the England international in the 70th minute.

Romelu Lukaku teed up Martial to make the breakthrough as the France international latched onto the forward’s header before beating two Tottenham defenders and finishing past his compatriot Hugo Lloris.

Martial has now scored four times as a substitute in the Premier League this season to become an impact player from the bench for Mourinho.

Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp praised Martial for his cameo performance to seal three points against Tottenham Hotspur.

“Martial was the difference,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“He is a player who effects games. He must think how is he on the bench scoring how many goals he does.

“He is a genuine talent. He gets into areas where he can score goals.”

Manchester United ended a two-game winless run with their 1-0 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Martial has scored four goals and has made two assists in nine appearances in the Premier League this season.

Manchester United are in second place in the table and three points ahead of Tottenham.

The Red Devils signed Martial in a £36m deal from Monaco in the 2015 summer transfer window.
