Manchester United are to monitor Marcus Rashford’s fitness closely ahead of Saturday’s trip to Liverpool, according to reports.

Website Club Call is reporting that the Red Devils are being made to sweat on the England international’s fitness following an exhaustive start to the season.

According to the same article, there is a growing belief that Rashford needs a rest given the demands of club and international football on the 19-year-old so far this term.

Rashford has already racked up 473 minutes in the Premier League this term, while his Manchester United rival Anthony Martial has only got 140 top-flight minutes under his belt.

The teenager has only played 31 minutes in the Champions League but still managed to score Manchester United’s final goal in a 3-0 victory over Swiss side Basel.

England manager Gareth Southgate has made Rashford a regular in his starting line-up and the Manchester United star has played 291 out of a possible 360 minutes in their last four World Cup qualifiers.

Rashford has scored two goals and has made three assists in seven appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

Manchester United will already be without Marouane Fellaini for their trip to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
