Gary Neville has praised Manchester United’s ability to grind out results against their Premier League rivals.

The Red Devils endured a tough start to October following Manchester United’s goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield to secure a point despite a disappointing performance.

Manchester United suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to promoted side Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium earlier this month to raise questions about their title credentials.

Tottenham were brilliant 4-1 winners against Liverpool but England’s prolific striker Harry Kane was sidelined for the long trip to Manchester United on Saturday.

Spurs were on top for large periods in the Premier League clash but couldn’t make the breakthrough against a resilient Manchester United defence bolstered by Eric Bailly’s return.

Substitute Anthony Martial scored an 81st-minute winner at Old Trafford after the France international latched onto Romelu Lukaku’s header before he finished past Hugo Lloris.

Former Manchester United defender Neville praised the Red Devils for digging out a big result against their direct title rivals.

“The one thing about this Manchester United team is that they are a really resilient unit,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“One thing you can’t criticise them for is their attitude. They are tough to beat. It’s 36 games now unbeaten at Old Trafford – that’s one hell of a record. A lot of clean sheets – they’ve got something going. There are a lot of positives.

“Mourinho set up to win the game today with two up top – which surprised us. He went for it. It was a struggle of a game but it was one they needed to win. There was pressure on United.”

Manchester United are looking to win their first Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson steered the Red Devils to their 20th top-flight crown.

The 20-time English champions signed Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.
